AGENDA 30
Agenda 30, [ Resolution adopted by the General Assembly on 25 September 2015 ] an action plan to “save” our planet and living beings from extinction, visualised in the 17 boxed goals seen below and consist of 169 targets. They are based on growth, explicit as in goal 8, or implicit as a consequence of the activities outlined in the other goals.
The intentions are to engage all countries, organisations and people in an overarching international cooperation to equalise the living conditions and strengthening human rights on our planet. The goals and targets should be accomplished 2030 (with 1,000,000,000 more people 2030) and are aiming to make way for a “sustainable” coexistence between humans and nature.
From my point of view the inherent contradictions in the approach, growth and using less non renewables in combination with, still, population growth, which will level out at 11,000,000,000 billion people year 2100 [Hans Rosling, Important Truths about Population Growth and the Developing World] makes the work to be done an oxymoron.
Our creativity has to be stretched to its limits in working with these wicked problems, and it will not be easier since many organisations see the incorporation of the 17 SDG in their business models as an opportunity to boost their growth [ SDGs: an opportunity for business ] in the coming years.
Things to ponder about in this context are:
- What is growth in a world of limited resources?
- What is demand in a world of a growing population?
- What is market economy in an unequal world?
- What type of constraints does culture impose?
- Do we want a global monoculture?

"Transforming our world: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development
Preamble
This Agenda (Agenda 30) is a plan of action for people, planet and prosperity. It also seeks to strengthen universal peace in larger freedom. We recognise that eradicating poverty in all its forms and dimensions, including extreme poverty, is the greatest global challenge and an indispensable requirement for sustainable development.
All countries and all stakeholders, acting in collaborative partnership, will implement this plan. We are resolved to free the human race from the tyranny of poverty and want and to heal and secure our planet. We are determined to take the bold and transformative steps which are urgently needed to shift the world on to a sustainable and resilient path. As we embark on this collective journey, we pledge that no one will be left behind.
The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (17 SDG) and 169 targets which we are announcing today demonstrate the scale and ambition of this new universal Agenda. They seek to build on the Millennium Development Goals and complete what they did not achieve. They seek to realize the human rights of all and to achieve gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls. They are integrated and indivisible and balance the three dimensions of sustainable development: the economic, social and environmental.
The Goals and targets will stimulate action over the next 15 years in areas of critical importance for humanity and the planet."
